Doctor of Education (EdD) in Reading & Literacy
Our Doctor of Education (EdD) in Reading & Literacy prepares educators to become experts in literacy instruction and assessment. The program focuses on the foundations of reading, reading assessment strategies, and practical applications through a practicum experience. Students gain skills in content area reading and develop strategies to enhance literacy across various disciplines. The program also emphasizes behavioral management and social-emotional competence to create supportive learning environments. Through public writing, policy analysis, and legal studies, candidates gain a deeper understanding of the broader societal and legal contexts shaping literacy education. A comprehensive research sequence, from research methods to dissertation defense, enables students to conduct original research that contributes to the field. Graduates of this program are equipped to lead literacy initiatives, improve reading instruction, and advocate for policies that promote literacy development in diverse educational settings.
