
GIU Appoints Dr. David Byer as Affiliated Professor and Ph.D. Student Advisor
Graham International University (GIU) is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. David Byer as Affiliated Professor and Ph.D. Student Advisor. A highly accomplished academic, technologist, and educator, Prof. Byer brings over three decades of interdisciplinary expertise to his new role at GIU.
A native of Barbados, Prof. Byer has built an extraordinary career that spans technology, education, public service, and academic research. Currently serving as System-Portal Administrator at the National Insurance and Social Security Service of Barbados, he leads digital innovation efforts, overseeing the development of web applications, secure IT infrastructure, and nationwide digital services. His specialization as a Certified Virtualization Expert (CVE) and his proficiency in languages such as Java, C#, PHP, and Perl underscore his technical expertise.

Beyond his professional roles, Prof. Byer has made lasting contributions to education and research. He has served as Lecturer and Tutor at the University of the West Indies (Cave Hill) since 2012 and is also a Chief Examiner for CAPE Computer Science at the Caribbean Examinations Council. His scholarly endeavors include contributions to the development of the Personal Internet Search Assistant (PISA), a tool designed to improve how users retrieve relevant information from the internet.
Prof. Byer holds an impressive list of academic credentials, including a Ph.D. in History from Selinus University of Sciences and Literature, an M.Phil in Computer Science, and a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of the West Indies (Cave Hill).
Prof. Byer has also served in multiple leadership capacities, including Vice Chairman of the Internet Society (Barbados Chapter), Vice President of Communications at NBG Productions and NGTV Group, and Director of Technology at FarmFinder Global Inc.
As Affiliated Professor and Ph.D. Student Advisor Prof. Byer will play a pivotal role in mentoring doctoral students, contributing to curriculum development, and advancing GIU’s research and innovation agenda.
