Doctor of Education (EdD) in Social Studies
Our Doctor of Education (EdD) in Social Studies prepares educators to lead and innovate in the field of social studies education. The program focuses on the role of social studies and geography in secondary education, as well as the methods and strategies for planning and teaching social studies effectively. Students gain expertise in the integration of sociology for development and explore how to engage diverse learners through dynamic, inquiry-based learning experiences. The program also emphasizes behavioral management and social-emotional competence to enhance classroom environments. Through public writing, policy analysis, and legal studies, candidates gain a comprehensive understanding of the societal, policy, and legal influences on social studies education. A structured research sequence, from research literacy to dissertation defense, enables students to conduct original research that contributes to the advancement of social studies education. Graduates are equipped to lead social studies initiatives, advocate for policy changes, and drive educational reform in secondary education.
