
GIU Confers Honorary Doctorate on Singer-Songwriter Oliver Sean Alvares
Graham International University (GIU) is proud to announce that it has conferred an Honorary Doctor of Philosophy (Hon. Ph.D.) in Fine Arts & Music upon the acclaimed singer-songwriter, record producer, and composer Oliver Sean Alvares, popularly known as Oliver Sean.
Dr. (Hon.) Oliver Sean Alvares is an acclaimed independent artist whose versatile music spans acoustic rock, blues, Americana, world-beat, and alternative genres . His career, which launched in 1999 with the single “There She Is Again”, has since seen repeated international success .

A multi-talented musician, Oliver Sean has excelled as a composer, live performer, guitar virtuoso, producer, and filmmaker. His productions have featured on global platforms such as MTV and VH1 . Among his many accolades are a nomination for the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2012 , multiple Billboard Top 10 appearances—including #6 on the World Digital Song Sales chart in 2019 for Doing That (Time. Love. Happiness), and #8 on the Billboard Blues Album chart in 2020 for Devil is Back .
Most recently, his Independent Blues Project album, featuring “Mama Taught Me”, debuted at #10 on the Billboard Blues Album Charts in December 2024, and reached top positions in several countries including the U.S., U.K., Portugal, Thailand, Canada, and Turkey .
